Canoe surfing is possible for us, but we have to go to
the beach at Bantham for
suitable waves.
You don't need big waves for having fun
in a kayak, small ones will do. Actually surfing (in a kayak or
on a surfboard) is a bit more dangerous than you might think. Surfing
beaches often have rip tides that can sweep you out to sea faster than
you can swim at each end of the beach Kayakers doing this in big waves
should have a good basic skill level. They should stay in really close
to the beach if they have little surfing experience. Collisions at
speed are also a risk.
We try to get in a trip once a month in the
summer. These trips are usually organised by Pete Callis, for
details give him a ring - tel 01803 839046.
