-
Promote
the club widely within the community and maximize membership. This
will help the wider community to reduce its impact on the
environment (person powered craft being an inherently low impact
activity)
-
Encourage
members to walk to the club or use public transport rather than use
cars. This can be encouraged by the club maintaining a good range of
club owned clothing (wetsuits, windproof tops, wetsuit boots,
thermal tops etc) so as to reduce the need for members to carry such
items from home when they wish to paddle.
-
Avoid
the use of motor driven vessels as far as possible. Canoe and kayak
teaching will focus on self-rescue techniques such as towing skills
and group or individual boat emptying skills (so that accompanying
rescue boats with engines are not needed).
-
Ensure
that all the equipment it purchases is of robust quality so that is
has a long useful service life.
This will reduce the pollution associated with the
manufacture if that equipment.
-
Purchase
second hand equipment where that is consistent with the equipment
being of robust quality. Promoting
the reuse of equipment already manufactured will reduce the
manufacture of new goods.
-
Promote
canoe camping by club members (in club kayaks and canoes) so that
short holidays can be taken by members close to home thus saving the
traveling associated with other types of holiday and the consequent
pollution.
-
Ensure
a respect for wildlife is part of the ethos of the club.
This should involve not disturbing nesting birds for example.
-
Undertake
from time to time activities such as beach clean up days to
demonstrate the clubs desire to improve the local environment.
-
Campaign
where appropriate for improvements to the local environment.
-
Comply with all relevant environmental regulation.
