Club Risk Assessment

Club members have regular pool sessions which are open to potential members.  These sessions are great for beginners. People often worry about if they can get out of a kayak if they turn over - its actually not hard. It takes about 6 seconds. The cockpits are large and easy to get out of.   In the pool you can do your first capsize in warm water  - luxury!   An instructor stands right beside you to make you feel as safe as possible and can intervene (but actually this is never necessary, its much easier than you think).

We generally have a pool session once a month for the winter months, usually on a Saturday when our favourite pool (Brixham) can most easily fit us into their schedule. In the summer we often take new joiners up to the open air pool in Dartmouth during the pool lunch break. More experienced paddlers also love pool sessions for practicing advanced skills, and its also a great opportunity for general messing about and family fun.   see video     http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pJx4zRr1kE
